Who Is Eligible for the State Child Allowance as a Foreign Worker Family

The state child allowance (alocația de stat pentru copii) is Romania’s universal monthly payment for every child living in the country — and children of lawfully resident foreign workers are inside the scheme, not outside it.

Who Qualifies

Every child residing in Romania qualifies, with the payment made to the parent or guardian. For foreign families, that means lawful residence for the parent and child, the child living in the household in Romania, and the identification numbers in order. It is not income-tested.

How to Apply

The claim is submitted to the county agency for social payments through the local town hall or the agency’s channels, along with the parent’s identity and residence documents, the child’s birth certificate (certified Romanian translation where issued abroad), and the bank account for payment. Decisions are issued in writing, and payment runs monthly.

A fixed monthly amount per child, higher for the youngest children and adjusted from time to time — check the current rates with the county agency rather than older pages.

Notes for Driver Families

Long international rotations do not affect the child’s entitlement while the household remains in Romania; where the children still live in another EU state, EU coordination rules decide which country pays what — declare the real arrangement.

Is qualification recognition always required?

Formal diploma recognition is rarely the hurdle in Romania — the file must show the vocational role itself: the C or C+E licence and the Code 95 attestation through the ARR. Any remaining paperwork can usually be completed alongside the job.
