Truck Driver Jobs in Poland and How to Apply in 2026

Poland rewrote its foreign-employment rulebook, and 2026 is the first full year of the new machine: the old labour-market test is abolished, every application is electronic, and the salary floor is published in zlotys. For the driver, this means the application is faster and more predictable than it has been in a decade — provided the employer knows the new sequence. Here is exactly how applying works this year, in Europe’s largest road-freight nation.

Why Poland, in one paragraph

Polish carriers haul more international tonnage than any other EU flag, and the sector cannot staff itself: roughly one in five of all foreign work permits issued in Poland goes to logistics. Transport drivers appear year after year among the occupations in structural shortage, which is why fleets from Gdańsk to Rzeszów now recruit routinely from Asia, the Caucasus and the Balkans.

What changed with the 2025 reform

The Act of 20 March 2025, in force since 1 June 2025, did three big things: it abolished the labour-market test entirely, replaced it with regionally published protected-professions lists (permits are refused only where the local authority has listed the occupation, typically after layoffs), and moved every filing onto the electronic system — paper applications are left without consideration. A central register now logs every permit, declaration and inspection.

Step one: a compliant offer

Your contract must be written in line with Polish labour law and pay at least the national minimum — PLN 4,806 gross a month (PLN 31.40 an hour) from 1 January 2026 — and no less than what comparable Polish colleagues earn. Two traps to know: bonuses and allowances do not count toward the floor, and wages must be paid in zloty through a Polish payroll.

Step two: the protected-professions check

Before filing, the employer confirms the role is not on the local protected list for the region — a quick check that replaced weeks of labour-office correspondence. Driver roles, being shortage occupations, are the opposite of protected in practice; the check is a mere formality.

Step three: the electronic filing

The employer submits the Type A work permit application through the official praca.gov.pl portal, using a trusted profile or a qualified e-signature, attaching the company registration, tax and social insurance status, the contract, and the employee’s qualifications (foreign diplomas with sworn Polish translations). Decisions typically land in about 30 days, up to two months for complicated files; fees are modest, in the tens to low hundreds of zloty—permits run for up to three years — one year for companies younger than 12 months.

The declaration fast lane

Citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Armenia can be hired on the simplified declaration route instead — quicker still, filed on the same portal — which is why fleets often move fastest with candidates from these countries. Everyone else takes the standard permit above.

Step four: the D visa and arrival

With the permit in hand, you apply for the national D work visa at the Polish consulate: passport, permit, contract, insurance, accommodation, and funds. Upon arrival, the employer must notify you of the start of your work within 7 days; the long-term residence card is issued for those staying beyond the visa. Polish driver pay runs roughly PLN 6,000–12,000 a month (€1,300–2,600) depending on domestic versus international work — and international rosters add the allowances where the real money lives. Set against Polish living costs, disciplined drivers save at rates Western bases rarely match.
