Truck Driver Jobs in Bosnia and Herzegovina Hiring Now

Bosnian transport company hiring truck drivers now for Balkan and EU routes

Bosnian transport companies are hiring — not as a slogan, but as a measurable fact. The number of work permits issued to foreigners has climbed year on year; the government raised the 2026 quota to accommodate more, and truck drivers are on the official list of in-demand occupations. The reason is simple: local drivers keep leaving for better-paid seats in Germany, Croatia and Slovenia, and someone has to move the freight they left behind. Here are the openings and how to get one now.

The hiring numbers tell the story.

Permits issued to foreign workers rose from about 5,800 in 2024 to roughly 6,700 in 2025, and the Council of Ministers set the 2026 quota at 7,427 — 4,500 for the Federation, 2,000 for Republika Srpska, 927 for Brčko — with the majority reserved for new employment rather than renewals. Governments do not raise quotas for fun; they do it because employers are asking.

Why drivers specifically

Transport sits squarely in the shortage economy, and it is the sector where the gap between vacancies and applicants is most visible on the road itself. The Labour and Employment Agency’s in-demand roles consistently include truck drivers, as well as construction and manufacturing trades, because the outflow of experienced Bosnian drivers to the EU has left fleets undercrewed just as regional freight grows year after year. For a qualified applicant, that arithmetic works entirely in your favour.

Where the work is

  • International routes into Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and onward into the EU — the best paid and the hungriest for CE drivers.
  • Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Mostar and Zenica — domestic distribution, construction logistics and manufacturing supply.
  • Specialist work — tippers and construction haulage, fuel, refrigerated food.

How fast can you start

Plan in weeks, not days: the vacancy must pass a labour market check (typically 15–30 days), then the entity’s employment service issues the work permit (up to one year, employer-specific), then the D visa if your nationality needs one, then the residence permit after arrival via the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs. With documents ready and an employer moving quickly, a motivated driver can realistically be on the road within a couple of months. Our work permit and work visa pages map the sequence.

A 2026 rule worth knowing

The Federation tightened its procedures in 2026: permit extensions must now be filed no earlier than 60 and no later than 30 days before expiry. If you take a job there, diarise that window from day one — missing it can force a fresh application against the quota.

What employers want to see

A valid C or CE licence (see our driving licence page), tidy paperwork with certified translations, a clean record, and — for the EU-bound routes — Code 95 and tachograph readiness, which instantly puts you in the top tier of applicants.

Pay when you sign

The national average gross wage is around BAM 2,400 a month (about €1,240, euro-pegged), with international drivers earning above that through trip allowances, and low living costs keeping real spending power solid. Compare any offer against that benchmark and ask exactly how cross-border trips are paid.

Make yourself an easy hire.

  • Have passport, licence, translations and record certificate scanned and ready.
  • Signal flexibility on routes early; the plum international runs follow trust.
  • Highlight any EU-route experience, ADR or refrigerated work.
  • Respond same-day — quota years reward employers and drivers who move fast.

Watch the quota calendar.

The quota is generous by recent standards, but it is still a hard cap, divided by entity and sector — and once a year’s allocation is spent, no amount of employer goodwill can create another permit. That gives the calendar real weight: applications filed early in the year face open quota space; late-year filings gamble on what remains. If you are negotiating with a Bosnian employer, push politely for the paperwork to start now rather than “after the season” — in a quota system, the driver whose file goes in first wins.

Apply now

With the quota open and fleets short-handed, timing favours the applicant. Browse current truck driver jobs and vacancies, and create a profile in the driver section so hiring companies can reach you directly; employers can post roles via the employer section.

FAQs

Are companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina really hiring truck drivers now?

Yes. Foreign work permits rose from about 5,800 in 2024 to roughly 6,700 in 2025; the 2026 quota was raised to 7,427, and truck drivers sit on the official in-demand lists.

How quickly can I start?

Realistically, within a couple of months: a 15–30-day labour market check, the entity work permit, a D visa if required, then residence upon arrival. Ready documents and a fast-moving employer shorten every step.

Which routes and cities have the most work?

International runs to Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and the wider EU pay best and need CE drivers most, with domestic work concentrated around Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Mostar,r and Zenica.

What is the 2026 extension rule?

In the Federation, permit extensions must be filed no earlier than 60 and no later than 30 days before expiry — miss the window and you may face a fresh quota application.

What will I earn?

The average gross wage is around BAM 2,400 a month (about €1,240), with international drivers earning above that, thanks to allowances and low living costs, boosting real value.

What makes me the strongest candidate?

A valid CE licence, certified translations ready, a clean record, and Code 95 plus tachograph readiness for EU-bound routes — that combination puts you at the front of the queue.
