Beyond that it depends on whether the issuing country appears on the convention or reciprocity lists, and where it does not the driver sits the Romanian theory and practical examination, which they may now do without compulsory driving school.

This is where the real timeline lives, and it is longer than most employers expect. The driver attestation that a Romanian operator needs in order to put a third country national on international work requires a Romanian licence and the professional qualification. A newly arrived driver has neither. The tachograph card also requires the work authorisation first. So the sequence is admission, then licence, then qualification, then attestation, and an employer who budgets only for the visa will be short by months.
One thing works in your favour. The professional examinations have been made available in English, which was done specifically to serve drivers recruited from South and South East Asia, so the qualification stage no longer requires Romanian first.
Unlike several other member states, the forklift authorisation in Romania is a genuine state authorisation issued to the individual rather than a permission the employer grants. ADR is required where the load needs it. Verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.
Timiș is the one county in this region that touches both an open internal frontier and a hard external one, and the two must not be planned alike. The Hungarian crossings carry no routine checks now that Romania is in full Schengen, so a vehicle leaving Timișoara for Cenad or north towards the motorway border crossing no longer stops at a control booth. The Serbian crossings at Moravița, Jimbolia and Foeni are a different matter entirely: Serbia is outside the EU, so these remain Schengen external borders with full passport and customs control on every movement, and Moravița, the main road crossing, runs around the clock precisely because of it. Serbia is outside the EU, so Moravița, Jimbolia and Foeni remain Schengen external borders with full passport and customs control on every movement. Only the Hungarian crossings changed. A Timișoara-based driver can run north with no check and southwest into a full frontier procedure, and those are two different journeys.
They should not. The same vehicle, out of the same depot, faces no routine check going north and a full external frontier check going southwest. The documentation differs, the time allowance differs, and the driver competence differs. Roster them separately, price them separately, and screen for external frontier experience where the work is Serbian rather than assuming it transfers.
It breaks it. Freight heading from this county towards Deva, Sibiu and the capital leaves the motorway for a stretch of the old alignment because a short section is still unfinished and won’t be finished for some time. Any journey time built on a continuous motorway run eastwards is wrong, and the error is largest on exactly the routes an employer is most likely to quote.
Real, and unique in this region. The airport in Timișoara has a dedicated cargo and express courier facility on a three-and-a-half-kilometre runway, is among the busiest in the country, and sits a few kilometres from the logistics park, which is itself about a kilometre from the motorway. However, the ranking is old enough that you should check current fleet figures.
