For Iași Employers
Iași holds the largest population in Nord-Est and, unusually for this region, a growing one: the county has added residents since the census while four of its neighbours lost them. That does not make it the easy county for driver recruitment. Software, pharmaceuticals, automotive and electronics employers here pay above the national average and compete for exactly the young men who would otherwise train for categoria C+E. An Iași vacancy has to argue against those employers, not just against other hauliers.
Direct applications • You interview and hire • Document coordination under a separate agreement
Iași is the region's largest labour market and its least road freight intensive economy, with software and pharmaceuticals ahead of manufacturing. Driver demand is therefore split between extern operators recruiting here and urban distribution serving a big city.
Spell out the category as categoria C+E or categoria C, say whether the atestat profesional marfă must be in hand at interview, and post the role at www.fastdriver.eu/jobs/romania so that candidates apply to you and not to an intermediary.
To be plain about what this platform is: FastDriver.eu publishes driver vacancies. It is neither a recruitment agency nor an agent de muncă temporară, it does not supply labour, and it never signs a contract with a driver. Selection and employment stay with you.
A point an employer would not expect: modern warehousing in Romania has concentrated overwhelmingly in cities with motorway access, and Iași is not yet one of them. Schemes here have tended to be built for a named occupier rather than speculatively, so large ready-built space is scarce. Wider employer background is held on the Romania employer page.
Employers in Iași recruit for extern community work, for intern trunking between the county and the rest of Romania, for city and regional distribution, and for warehouse roles attached to built-to-suit sites.
Categoria C+E on international routes, advertised as șofer profesionist or șofer TIR and marketed pe comunitate. Recruiters from outside the county already advertise this work into Iași, including into the smaller communes, so the competition for a local C+E holder is national rather than local.
Domestic categoria C+E work, trunking between Iași and customers across Romania. Because the county's warehousing is mostly occupier specific, this work often serves a single client's network, which is worth saying in the advert since it means predictable routes.
Urban and regional distribution for the biggest city in the region, on categoria C or on categoria B for lighter vehicles. Intern work, multi-drop, early starts. This role competes directly with courier platforms, so hours and guaranteed pay structure matter more than vehicle size.
Light commercial international work on categoria B, which lets an employer recruit from a far wider pool than C+E allows. International carriage in this weight class now falls inside the tachograph obligation, so specify the card tahograf requirement rather than leaving it implied.
Warehouse and yard lifting work, commonly advertised with picking or loading duties attached. The Romanian forklift document is a state authorisation issued to the individual, so ask for the autorizație de stivuitorist and check its annual visa rather than assuming an employer ticket will do.
In a county where other sectors pay well, a vague advert loses. Say what the vehicle is, how many nights away the rota involves, and whether the allowance for international work is paid on top of salary.
Iași city sits in the east of the county close to the Prut, with Pașcani at the opposite end towards Neamț and Târgu Frumos and Hârlău between them. For a driver, the county is long on its east to west axis, so a vacancy in the city and a vacancy in Pașcani draw on almost separate catchments.
The city dominates the county's population and carries the distribution and courier demand with it. A depot inside the city will recruit locally; one on the ring will need to say which approach road it sits on, because cross-city commuting is slow.
Pașcani is the second urban centre and the point where the motorway corridor is being built towards. Until those lots open, traffic between Pașcani and Iași runs on national road, and so does the final leg of any motorway journey into the city.
Târgu Frumos, Hârlău and Strunga sit in the rural middle and west of the county, and recruiters advertising extern work already reach into communes of that size. A town based advert should state whether it will fund travel to a depot.
The eastern edge of the county is the Prut and the Moldovan frontier, with the Sculeni crossing on it. Local traffic through Sculeni is heavy and it is a full external border, so a job that routes through it should say so.
Driver work differs sharply between the capital ring, the Black Sea port, the western gateway counties and the eastern border. Open another county to see the hiring information that applies there.
Romanian drivers search in Romanian. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market.
Sofer profesionist is the dominant advert title. Sofer TIR signals international work and is read that way immediately. Sofer camion and sofer de distributie name the vehicle and the job. Conducator auto is the formal register that appears in documents and regulations rather than in adverts.
Intern or extern is the first thing a Romanian driver looks for, because it decides whether they are home each night or away for weeks. Put it in the headline. An advert that leaves it out collects applications from people who withdraw once they find out.
Pe comunitate is the phrase that signals the well paid international segment. It is worth using where it is true, and worth avoiding where it is not, because drivers treat it as a promise about earnings.
Write the licence as C+E. That form appears far more often in real adverts than CE, by a wide margin, and writing it the other way marks an advert as drafted by someone outside the trade.
The qualification is the atestat profesional, for marfa or for persoane. Adverts list it alongside the card tahograf and ADR where the load requires it. Name only what the role genuinely needs.
Pay needs two numbers, not one. Salary and diurna are quoted separately in Romanian adverts, and for international work the daily allowance is a very large part of what a driver actually takes home. An advert that gives only the salary reads as badly paid even when it is not.
Romanian drivers read an advert for the route, the vehicle, the time away and the two pay figures. An advert that answers those four things gets better applications than one that lists benefits.
FastDriver.eu operates as a European driver job portal and allows candidates elsewhere in Europe and in eligible international markets to find and apply for suitable Romanian vacancies.
Start by ignoring most of what is published about this, because the system changed. The separate work permit that employers used to apply for has been abolished and replaced by a single application filed on a state platform. The old route was switched off months before the new platform opened, so guidance written before the change is not just dated, it describes a procedure that no longer exists.
Drivers sit on the shortage occupations list, which is the gate for the main employment route. For a haulier that is genuinely good news and it is the part of the system working in your favour.
The real barrier is not the paperwork. Filing directly requires a trading history, an average headcount above a published threshold and a financial guarantee for each worker. Most Romanian hauliers sit below that headcount, which means they cannot file at all and must go through a licensed placement agency instead. Check which side of that line your company falls on before you plan anything else, because it changes the whole approach.
The annual quota is a single national figure rather than a transport allocation, and it was cut rather than raised. A large share of it is consumed well before the year ends, so an application late in the cycle competes for what is left.
Employers in Iași may receive applications from drivers based in Romania, elsewhere in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the wider European region, Asia, Africa, Gulf countries, North America, Latin America and other eligible international markets.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may work in Romania without an authorisation. A Moldovan national holding Romanian citizenship is an EU citizen and needs nothing, while one without it faces full external border checks, because the Romanian border with Moldova is now a Schengen external frontier. The difference is large and it is worth establishing early in a conversation rather than late.
The employment contract has to reach the national register before the driver starts work, not afterwards. The register changed name and platform recently, and the penalties for undeclared work are severe with a high ceiling, so this is not a formality to leave until the first week.
A candidate's ability to work here depends on nationality, residence status, professional qualifications, driving licence validity and the requirements of the individual position. Nationality alone never settles it. Drivers can check their own position through our driving licence eligibility guidance.
FastDriver.eu can provide process guidance and document coordination when a candidate needs support. It does not make government decisions and cannot promise an approval.
Name the licence category in the advert. A Romanian driver reads it first, and C+E in the headline tells them immediately whether the job is theirs.
Freight work uses C and C+E, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigid vehicles. Passenger transport uses D and D1.
Age limits matter when you are planning a pipeline. C1 and C1E open at eighteen, C and C+E at twenty one and reduce to eighteen for a driver holding the professional qualification. D and DE open at twenty four and reduce to twenty one on the same basis. Heavy categories run five years.
Romania asks for something most member states do not. A professional driver needs an annual medical check and an annual psychological check, and the psychological opinion is also part of the file for exchanging a foreign licence. Employers arriving from elsewhere in the EU are regularly caught out by it.
The atestat profesional is issued by the national road authority, separately for goods and for passengers, and renewed every five years. A shorter conversion route exists for a driver moving between the two, so an experienced goods driver is not starting again to work on passenger transport.
Foreign licences need checking before you make an offer. EU and EEA licences exchange without a test. Beyond that it depends on whether the issuing country appears on the convention or reciprocity lists, and where it does not the driver sits the Romanian theory and practical examination, which they may now do without compulsory driving school.
Several of the countries Romanian hauliers recruit from most heavily could not be found on those exchange lists. That is not a conclusion that they are absent, but it does mean the question has to be settled for the specific country before a contract is signed, not assumed.
A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised here. An experienced driver arriving from outside Europe takes the Romanian qualification whatever they held before.
This is where the real timeline lives, and it is longer than most employers expect. The driver attestation that a Romanian operator needs in order to put a third country national on international work requires a Romanian licence and the professional qualification. A newly arrived driver has neither. The tachograph card also requires the work authorisation first. So the sequence is admission, then licence, then qualification, then attestation, and an employer who budgets only for the visa will be short by months.
One thing works in your favour. The professional examinations have been made available in English, which was done specifically to serve drivers recruited from South and South East Asia, so the qualification stage no longer requires Romanian first.
Unlike several other member states, the forklift authorisation in Romania is a genuine state authorisation issued to the individual rather than a permission the employer grants. ADR is required where the load needs it. Verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.
The Sculeni crossing on the Prut is a Schengen external border post with full checks in both directions, and it is the busiest Romania to Moldova crossing in the data available for this region: tens of thousands of people and several thousand vehicles over a two day period, with traffic up sharply on the previous year and peak queues of around an hour for general traffic entering Romania. Those counts cover transport vehicles as a whole and do not separate out lorries, so no freight lane waiting time should be assumed from them. Plan the crossing into the schedule and confirm current conditions with the border police.

Employers in Iași can use FastDriver.eu to find drivers, advertise genuine vacancies and receive applications through a specialised European driver job portal.
The employer starts by submitting company details, work location, driver category, required licence, number of vacancies, experience level, working schedule, pay information and proposed start date.
The vacancy can then be prepared and promoted to relevant drivers through the platform, alongside the current driver vacancies already open.
Candidates apply for suitable positions. The employer reviews their information, conducts interviews and makes the final hiring decision.
FastDriver.eu does not become the employer. It does not replace the company's legal responsibility for candidate verification, employment contracts, remuneration or working conditions.
Employers that can consider international drivers should clearly state whether work authorisation guidance, visa process support, accommodation or relocation assistance is available.
This information must reflect the employer's actual offer. It must not be added only for search visibility.
Tell us how many drivers you need, the base or town they work from, the licence category, experience, routes, language requirements and proposed employment conditions.
Our team reviews your company details and checks that the vacancy contains what a Romanian driver needs in order to apply with confidence, including the category, whether the work is intern or extern, the atestat position, and salary and diurna stated separately.
The vacancy is prepared, published and promoted according to the selected employer option.
Drivers apply through the platform. The employer reviews applications, communicates with suitable candidates and arranges interviews.
The employer makes the final hiring decision, verifies the candidate and signs the employment contract directly with the selected driver.
When separately agreed, FastDriver.eu may provide immigration process guidance, document coordination and relocation preparation for eligible international candidates.
Complete and accurate information helps drivers understand the opportunity and allows the platform team to publish the vacancy correctly.

Size works against an employer here. The county’s economy runs on software, pharmaceuticals, automotive and electronics; it is the only county in the region with earnings above the national average, and registered unemployment is low. Those sectors recruit the same young men who would otherwise take categoria C+E. Iași has the largest population in the region and is probably the hardest county to fill a driving seat.
It is, which makes Iași unusual in this region and in Romania generally. The county has added roughly 20,000 residents since the census, while Bacău, Neamț, Vaslui, and Botoșani each lost several thousand. Iași absorbs much of what the other counties lose, so the region looks flat in aggregate only because of this one county. For recruitment, the pool here is not contracting.
The A7 is being built towards Pașcani, which lies inside Iași county, so the county will get motorway access before the city does. None of the lots between Bacău and Pașcani is open to traffic yet. The last leg into Iași itself is planned to stay on a national road, so an operator based in the city should not assume motorway access based on the corridor’s name.
Because national stock followed the motorways, most of Romania’s industrial and logistics space sits in a handful of cities with direct high-speed road access, and Iași was identified as one of the places developing logistics parks without it. Schemes in that position tend to be built to suit a named occupier rather than speculatively, which is why ready-built space is thin.
One national distributor is confirmed to run a distribution centre in Iași as part of an eastern network that also covers Bacău, Suceava and Chișinău. Still, it is mentioned only in passing,, and no size, address, or staffing details could be sourced. Beyond that, nothing current was confirmed. An employer should treat thecounty’ss logistics stock as modest and occupier-specific.
Iași city first, then Pașcani as the second urban centre, with Târgu Frumos and Hârlău as the other towns and rural communes such as Strunga already appearing in recruiters’ adverts. The county has a very large number of communes, so the catchment is wide. Name the depot, the shift start and whether travel is supported, because distances across this county are real.
It turns entirely on citizenship. A Moldovan with Romanian citizenship is an EU citizen, needs no work permission, falls outside the quota, and crosses the Prut without external border formalities. A Moldovan without it must use the full external border at Sculeni and the third-country route, and may fall under an exemption whose current status needs checking against the law as it stands. It is not established how widely hauliers use this channel in practice.
The old employment clearance, the aviz de angajare, no longer exists. It has been replaced by a single application made through a state platform, and the shortage occupations list decides which jobs can be recruited that way. The replacement arrived months after the old route closed, so employers should confirm current requirements on the platform rather than rely on published guides.
That depends on its size, not on its paperwork. Direct filing requires a trading history, an average headcount over a published threshold, and a financial guarantee for each worker. Most hauliers are below the headcount threshold and must use a licensed placement agency. Work out which route applies before you quote a candidate a start date, because the two timelines differ.
There is no sector split to answer that with. The quota is a single national figure covering all occupations; it was reduced, not increased, and a large share was used up well before the year was out. Transport gets eligibility through the shortage occupations list rather than reserved places, so timing within the year is a genuine planning variable.
The driver attestation an operator needs for a third country national requires a Romanian driving licence and the professional qualification, and the tachograph card cannot be issued until the work authorisation exists. A driver arriving without a Romanian licence or the qualification therefore cannot be deployed on community work, however complete the immigration file is. Budget for the licence and qualification stages separately.
Lower than many adverts suggest. Categoria C and C+E normally start at twenty-one. Still, the age drops to eighteen for a driver with a professional competence certificate, and the bus categories drop from -twenty-four to -twenty-one under the same condition. Category C1 and C1E start at eighteen outright. Heavy categories are valid for five years, so check the expiry date at the interview.
An annual medical examination and, distinctively, an annual psychological examination: the aviz medical and the aviz psihologic. The psychological opinion is also required for exchanging a foreign licence. Employers used to other member states are often caught out by the second one, and neither can be backdated, so settle who books and pays for them before the start date.
Plan on the basis that it is not. No recognition procedure for a non-EU professional qualification could be found, and the signals all point one way: the national road authority is the sole issuer of the Romanian attestation and has built examination capacity in English specifically for drivers recruited from South and Southeast Asia. A qualification obtained in another EU or EEA state is the exception.
Write the category as categoria C+E, which is how Romanian adverts overwhelmingly render it, and lead with șofer profesionist, keeping conducător auto for formal documents. Say intern or extern in the first lines, since that is the first thing a driver checks, and use pe comunitate if the work is Western European. Ask for a card tahograf valabil, not just a card.
It does not place anyone. The platform carries your vacancy; applications reach you directly, and you run the selection. FastDriver.eu is not a recruitment agency and not an agent de muncă temporară, and it does not become the employer at any point. Where a candidate needs permission to work,we provide process guidancee under a separate agreement, without any promise of approval.
In a county where other industries pay above the national average, a driver advert has to be concrete. Publish the vehicle, the rota, the licence category and the allowance structure in Iași, and let candidates apply to you directly.
Employers in Iași recruit, select and employ their drivers on their own account.
