Five departements, close to six million residents, and logistics running at 9.6% of salaried employment, the highest share in France. Freight here is Channel ro-ro, e-commerce warehousing and tanker work, and the driver market is advertised heavily through interim agencies.

Advertised as chauffeur SPL or conducteur super poids lourds, on permis CE. Runs feed the Calais and Dunkerque ro-ro terminals and the A1 corridor down to Dourges. Say whether the driver crosses to the United Kingdom or works the French leg only, because that decides the shift pattern.
Tanker work appears in this region with an explicitly international framing, on permis CE with an ADR certificate. Loads move through Dunkerque and the industrial estate around it. State the ADR specialisation you need, because the certificate expires five years from the basic course whatever is added later.
Hooklift and skip work, advertised as chauffeur SPL ampliroll remorquant, on permis CE. It serves construction, waste and the heavy industry around Dunkerque, Valenciennes and Onnaing. These roles are advertised town by town, so name the depot rather than the departement.
Delivery rounds out of Delta 3 at Dourges, E-Valley near Cambrai and the Oise parks at Nanteuil-le-Haudouin, Noyon and Longueil-Sainte-Marie. Advertised as chauffeur livreur, on permis C where the vehicle is over 3.5 tonnes. Name the round, the start time and the handling involved.
Coach and scheduled bus work on permis D with FIMO voyageurs. The region runs its own transport network, Hauts-de-France Mobilites. Conducteur receveur means the driver handles fares as well as driving, so say which of those duties the job carries and where it is based.
Advert titles in this region run almost entirely on SPL, so a role that is genuinely rigid work should say permis C and say porteur, or C-only drivers will filter it out before they read the detail.
The region runs from the Belgian border down to the Oise, with the Lille conurbation, over 1.5 million people, at its centre and the coast from Dunkerque through Calais to Boulogne-sur-Mer along its northern edge. Drivers judge a job here by which of those two poles they can reach.
Nord is the most populous departement in France, and the belt from Lille through Lesquin, Lambres-lez-Douai, Valenciennes and Onnaing carries much of its heavy vehicle work. Commutes inside that belt are short and candidates compare several depots at once.
The coastal corridor behaves differently. Dunkerque, Calais, Saint-Omer, Arques and Boulogne-sur-Mer sit on Channel and industrial traffic, and a driver living there will not travel daily to the Lille estates. Advertise the coast as its own catchment.
Southwards the region thins out. Amiens, Arras, Saint-Quentin, Beauvais and Chateau-Thierry each pull from their own area, and an advert that names only the region reads as vague to a driver in the Aisne or the Somme.
Delta 3 at Dourges sits on the A1 with seven rail tracks and canal access, and the Euralogistic campus trains for the supply chain on the same site. A vacancy there competes with every other operator on the platform.

French drivers search in French. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market.
Two letters carry most of the meaning. PL means a rigid lorry and maps to permis C. SPL means an articulated combination and maps to permis CE. Using them the wrong way round marks an advert as written by someone outside the trade, and drivers notice.
The common advert titles are chauffeur routier, chauffeur SPL, chauffeur PL, conducteur SPL and conducteur routier for freight, chauffeur livreur for delivery work, and conducteur de car for coach work.
Conducteur receveur is worth knowing. It means a bus driver who also handles fares and passenger contact, and it is the standard title on urban network vacancies.
Write the licence as permis C or permis CE. Adverts also use the older EC form, so either is understood, and the category usually appears in the advert title rather than buried in the body.
FIMO is the initial qualification and FCO the periodic refresher. Adverts list them by name alongside the carte de qualification de conducteur and code 95. Name only what the role genuinely needs.
The carte de conducteur for the digital tachograph appears in most freight adverts, and ADR where the load requires it.
One term is regularly misunderstood. CACES is an assessment scheme, not a licence. The legal permission to operate a forklift is the employer's own autorisation de conduite, and the CACES supports it rather than replacing it.
Pay is referenced against the convention collective nationale des transports routiers and its coefficient system. Stating a coefficient, or a clear gross figure, does more for an advert than a vague range.

For a candidate from outside the EU, the employer applies for the autorisation de travail through the ANEF portal. The application is the employer's to make, not the candidate's, and silence from the administration counts as a refusal rather than an approval, so track it rather than waiting.
Pay must reach at least the SMIC or the higher rate set by the convention collective nationale des transports routiers, whichever is greater. For driver roles the collective agreement is usually the binding figure, so check the coefficient for the post before you advertise a salary.
Unless an exemption applies, the employer must have published the vacancy for three weeks within the preceding six months before applying. The main exemption is the shortage occupation list, which is set by arrêté and is regional, so the list that matters is the annexe for this region rather than a national one.
Employers in Hauts-de-France may receive applications from drivers based in France, elsewhere in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the wider European region, Asia, Africa, Gulf countries, North America, Latin America and other eligible international markets.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may work in France without a work authorisation. Licence validity and the professional qualification still apply to them exactly as they do to a French driver.
Where a French operator employs a driver who is a third country national, an attestation de conducteur is also required. It is issued by the DREAL, or the DRIEAT in the Paris region, and it is separate from the work authorisation.
A candidate's ability to work here depends on nationality, residence status, professional qualifications, driving licence validity and the requirements of the individual position. Name the licence category in the advert. A French driver reads it first, and PL or SPL in the title tells them immediately whether the job is theirs.
Freight work uses permis C for rigid vehicles and permis CE for combinations, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigids. Passenger transport uses D and D1. Delivery roles in light vehicles sit in category B.
Age limits matter when planning a pipeline. C1 and C1E open at eighteen, C and CE at twenty one, D1 and D1E at twenty one and D and DE at twenty four. C and CE drop to eighteen for a driver holding the initial qualification.
Heavy category validity is tied to age rather than a fixed term, and every renewal requires a medical examination by an approved doctor. The interval shortens as the driver gets older, which is worth knowing before you build a rota around one person.
FIMO is the initial qualification, one hundred and forty hours, with a longer initial route of two hundred and eighty. FCO is thirty five hours every five years. Both are evidenced by the carte de qualification de conducteur and by code 95.
The passerelle between goods and passenger work runs thirty five hours in either direction, but read it carefully before you plan around it. It converts the qualification, not the licence. A driver moving to coach work must already hold the passenger category, so it widens your field only among drivers who already hold both.
Foreign licences need care. An EU or EEA licence is valid in France. Outside that, exchange depends on a reciprocity agreement with the issuing country, and the agreements differ in scope: some cover all categories, many cover only cars and motorcycles. A heavy category can only be exchanged where the agreement covers it, and the exchange must be started within a year of the driver establishing residence. Check the country before you make an offer, not after.
A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised in France. An experienced driver arriving from outside Europe must take FIMO here, whatever they held before. Budget realistic time for that rather than discovering it after a contract is signed.
A carte de conducteur is required for the digital tachograph on in scope work, and ADR training where the load needs it. Say which of these the role actually needs, and remember that verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.

A large part of driver hiring in this region runs through entreprises de travail temporaire, and the portal works the other way round: it carries adverts, does not employ drivers, does not place them with a user company, and takes no part in the employment relationship. The contract is between you and the driver.
Any driver using the site may apply, including people already living and working in the region. Some applicants are French or other EU nationals who need no permission to work. Others are third-country nationals who need work authorisation before they start. FastDriver.eu cannot guarantee how many applications arrive, or that any applicant is suitable, available or will attend an interview.
The employer applies, not the candidate, through the ANEF portal run by the Ministry of the Interior. Pay must be at least the SMIC or the higher figure set by the convention collective nationale des transports routiers, whichever is greater. There is no published processing standard. The one fixed rule is that silence for two months counts as a refusal, which opens the way to an administrative appeal.
It does not reach this region. Conducteurs routiers sit on the shortage annexe for Provence-Alpes-C. Build that publication period into your timetable.
Rigid work runs on permis C and articulated work on permis CE, which adverts also write as EC. C1 and C1E start at 18, C and CE at 21, and at 18 for a driver holding the initial professional qualification. Heavy categories are tied to the driver’s age rather than a fixed term, with a medical examination by an approved doctor at each renewal.
FIMO is the initial qualification at 140 hours, with a longer diploma route at 280 hours. FCO is 35 hours repeated every five years. The qualification is evidenced by the carte de qualification de conducteur and by code 95 on the licence. Check the expiry at interview, because professional driving stops on the day it lapses, and there is no grace period.
EU and EEA licences remain valid. Beyond that, exchange depends on a reciprocity list, where each country has one of three values: Toutes, A et B, or B. Only the first of those brings the heavy categories with it. The application must begin within the first year of residence in France, so raise it at the offer stage rather than later.
It is not. A qualification earned outside the EU or EEA carries no weight here, so an experienced driver from a third country takes FIMO afresh in France, regardless of their record at home. Ukraine is absent from the reciprocity list altogether, which means a Ukrainian driver faces the French examination as well as a fresh FIMO. Price that in before you make an offer.
Adverts captured in this region use SPL almost exclusively, and the titles that get read name the equipment: ampliroll remorquant, citerne international, super poids lourds. Give the town, the licence category, the FIMO and FCO position, whether an ADR certificate is needed, and the coefficient the pay sits on. Drivers here read the frais de route as closely as the coefficient.
An advert can go live quickly, but hiring moves at the speed of the paperwork behind it. If the candidate needs work authorisation, allow the three-week publication period first, then the ANEF application, with no published processing standard behind it. A licence exchange or a French FIMO takes months, not weeks. FastDriver.eu cannot promise any timescale.
Everything that makes you the employer. Before a third-country national starts, verify the residence document with the prefecture at the place of employment at least two working days in advance, and keep the dated request. File the DPAE with Urssaf. For a third-country national driving international transport or cabotage for a French operator, the attestation de conducteur comes from the DREAL.
Unemployment here has been running around two points above the metropolitan rate, the highest in mainland France, and the employment rate sits below the national figure. The pool is therefore large, but a higher share of it arrives without a heavy licence or a current qualification card. Decide before you advertise whether you will fund a licence and FIMO or recruit ready drivers only.

Customs and border formalities on United Kingdom traffic are part of the daily job here, not an occasional event. If the role involves crossing, say so and say who prepares the paperwork.
