For Grand Est Employers
Grand Est borders Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland, and that shapes its driver market twice over. Road carries three quarters of regional freight, the Port autonome de Strasbourg is the second river port in France, and around 360 freight trains cross the region each day. It is also the region where more than 200,000 residents leave daily to work abroad, so a haulier recruiting in Moselle competes with Luxembourg pay before it competes with another haulier.
One advert, applications direct to you • Driver candidates across Europe • Permit guidance under a separate agreement
Ten departements, about 5.5 million residents, and roughly 123,000 salaried logistics jobs spread across Alsace, Lorraine and Champagne. Road takes three quarters of regional freight, and the hiring problem here is competition for drivers rather than any shortage of freight to move.
Say which licence the job needs: permis C for a rigid, permis CE for an articulated combination, and both where the role genuinely mixes them. Put FIMO, FCO and any ADR requirement in the body of the advert rather than leaving them implied. Vacancies are published at www.fastdriver.eu/jobs/france.
FastDriver.eu carries adverts. It is not a recruitment agency, not an entreprise de travail temporaire, and it does not hire drivers out to user companies. No candidate is ever employed by the portal and no contract of employment passes through it. You interview, you decide and you sign.
Something a new employer here tends to miss: the cross-border flow is overwhelmingly residents driving their own cars to foreign employers, not French hauliers running international lines. The Strasbourg advert sample read for this page contained no cross-border driving role at all. Background on the national process is on the France employer page.
Employers in this region advertise articulated trunk and TRM work, combined rigid and articulated distribution roles, tanker work with ADR, hooklift work, and road legs for containers moving through the Rhine terminals.
Public haulage on permis CE, advertised as conducteur SPL activite TRM or simply chauffeur SPL. Groupe Mauffrey was the largest single advertiser in the Strasbourg sample read for this page. State the sector, the depot the driver books on at, and whether the work is zone courte or grand routier.
A combined title that appears here: one driver, both permis C and permis CE, moving between a rigid and an articulated unit across the week. Alsace distribution mixes the two more visibly than the Channel regions do. Where that is genuinely the job, write both categories into the title.
Tanker work on permis CE with a current ADR certificate. Petroleum products are one of the principal cargoes through the Port autonome de Strasbourg. Name the ADR specialisation, and remember the certificate runs five years from the basic examination rather than from the last endorsement added to it.
Hooklift and skip work on permis CE, advertised as chauffeur SPL ampliroll. Adverts in this region frequently pair it with CACES for crane and handling duties, which is an assessment scheme rather than a licence: the permission to operate comes from the autorisation de conduite you issue yourself.
The Strasbourg south and north terminals and the Lauterbourg satellite move containers by water and rail, and both ends of each movement run on road, on permis CE. Say where the driver books on, what the turnaround looks like and how terminal waiting time is treated.
Because adverts here spell the whole qualification stack out, one that names a licence category and nothing else looks thin beside the rest. Say what is required, and say what you are willing to fund.
Grand Est reaches from the Ardennes to the Swiss border, and its three north to south axes, A26 and A34 in Champagne, A31 in Lorraine and A35 in Alsace, decide how far a driver will travel to work. A job in Mulhouse does not draw candidates from Reims.
Strasbourg anchors the Rhine corridor, with about 320 businesses and roughly 10,000 jobs on the port estate alone. Bischheim, Schiltigheim, Lingolsheim and Eckbolsheim sit inside the same travel-to-work area and share the same candidates.
The Moselle axis runs through Metz, Thionville and Nancy. The Thionville employment zone alone sends about 80,000 people across the border to work, so local pay expectations there are set partly in Luxembourg.
Champagne is a separate catchment again. Reims, Troyes and Chalons-en-Champagne serve the Paris periphery, with the Parc Logistique de l'Aube and the ZAC at Paris-Vatry among the region's five dedicated logistics zones.
Unemployment inside the region ranges from around 4.4% at Epernay to around 11.5% at Forbach. Naming the town rather than the region is what decides whether an advert lands in a tight pool or a slack one.
Driver work differs sharply between the capital region, the Channel and Mediterranean ports, the inland logistics corridors and the overseas regions. Open another region to see the hiring information that applies there.
French drivers search in French. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market.
Two letters carry most of the meaning. PL means a rigid lorry and maps to permis C. SPL means an articulated combination and maps to permis CE. Using them the wrong way round marks an advert as written by someone outside the trade, and drivers notice.
The common advert titles are chauffeur routier, chauffeur SPL, chauffeur PL, conducteur SPL and conducteur routier for freight, chauffeur livreur for delivery work, and conducteur de car for coach work.
Conducteur receveur is worth knowing. It means a bus driver who also handles fares and passenger contact, and it is the standard title on urban network vacancies.
Write the licence as permis C or permis CE. Adverts also use the older EC form, so either is understood, and the category usually appears in the advert title rather than buried in the body.
FIMO is the initial qualification and FCO the periodic refresher. Adverts list them by name alongside the carte de qualification de conducteur and code 95. Name only what the role genuinely needs.
The carte de conducteur for the digital tachograph appears in most freight adverts, and ADR where the load requires it.
One term is regularly misunderstood. CACES is an assessment scheme, not a licence. The legal permission to operate a forklift is the employer's own autorisation de conduite, and the CACES supports it rather than replacing it.
Pay is referenced against the convention collective nationale des transports routiers and its coefficient system. Stating a coefficient, or a clear gross figure, does more for an advert than a vague range.
Grand Est is the region where adverts spell the qualification stack out in full: permis C and permis CE, FIMO, FCO, a current carte conducteur, ADR for hazardous loads, and CACES for crane and handling work. It is also the region that produced a combined Chauffeur PL et SPL title, covering one driver on both a rigid and an articulated unit. Two things follow for your own advert. Write both categories in where the job really mixes them, and treat CACES as evidence of competence rather than a licence, because the legal permission to operate handling equipment is the autorisation de conduite that you issue.
FastDriver.eu operates as a European driver job portal and allows candidates elsewhere in Europe and in eligible international markets to find and apply for suitable French vacancies.
For a candidate from outside the EU, the employer applies for the autorisation de travail through the ANEF portal. The application is the employer's to make, not the candidate's, and silence from the administration counts as a refusal rather than an approval, so track it rather than waiting.
Pay must reach at least the SMIC or the higher rate set by the convention collective nationale des transports routiers, whichever is greater. For driver roles the collective agreement is usually the binding figure, so check the coefficient for the post before you advertise a salary.
Unless an exemption applies, the employer must have published the vacancy for three weeks within the preceding six months before applying. The main exemption is the shortage occupation list, which is set by arrêté and is regional, so the list that matters is the annexe for this region rather than a national one.
Employers in Grand Est may receive applications from drivers based in France, elsewhere in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the wider European region, Asia, Africa, Gulf countries, North America, Latin America and other eligible international markets.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may work in France without a work authorisation. Licence validity and the professional qualification still apply to them exactly as they do to a French driver.
Where a French operator employs a driver who is a third country national, an attestation de conducteur is also required. It is issued by the DREAL, or the DRIEAT in the Paris region, and it is separate from the work authorisation.
A candidate's ability to work here depends on nationality, residence status, professional qualifications, driving licence validity and the requirements of the individual position. Nationality alone never settles it. Drivers can check their own position through our driving licence eligibility guidance.
FastDriver.eu can provide process guidance and document coordination when a candidate needs support. It does not make government decisions and cannot promise an approval.
Name the licence category in the advert. A French driver reads it first, and PL or SPL in the title tells them immediately whether the job is theirs.
Freight work uses permis C for rigid vehicles and permis CE for combinations, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigids. Passenger transport uses D and D1. Delivery roles in light vehicles sit in category B.
Age limits matter when planning a pipeline. C1 and C1E open at eighteen, C and CE at twenty one, D1 and D1E at twenty one and D and DE at twenty four. C and CE drop to eighteen for a driver holding the initial qualification.
Heavy category validity is tied to age rather than a fixed term, and every renewal requires a medical examination by an approved doctor. The interval shortens as the driver gets older, which is worth knowing before you build a rota around one person.
FIMO is the initial qualification, one hundred and forty hours, with a longer initial route of two hundred and eighty. FCO is thirty five hours every five years. Both are evidenced by the carte de qualification de conducteur and by code 95.
The passerelle between goods and passenger work runs thirty five hours in either direction, but read it carefully before you plan around it. It converts the qualification, not the licence. A driver moving to coach work must already hold the passenger category, so it widens your field only among drivers who already hold both.
Foreign licences need care. An EU or EEA licence is valid in France. Outside that, exchange depends on a reciprocity agreement with the issuing country, and the agreements differ in scope: some cover all categories, many cover only cars and motorcycles. A heavy category can only be exchanged where the agreement covers it, and the exchange must be started within a year of the driver establishing residence. Check the country before you make an offer, not after.
A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised in France. An experienced driver arriving from outside Europe must take FIMO here, whatever they held before. Budget realistic time for that rather than discovering it after a contract is signed.
A carte de conducteur is required for the digital tachograph on in scope work, and ADR training where the load needs it. Say which of these the role actually needs, and remember that verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.

Employers in Grand Est can use FastDriver.eu to find drivers, advertise genuine vacancies and receive applications through a specialised European driver job portal.
The employer starts by submitting company details, work location, driver category, required licence, number of vacancies, experience level, working schedule, salary information and proposed start date.
The vacancy can then be prepared and promoted to relevant drivers through the platform, alongside the current driver vacancies already open.
Candidates apply for suitable positions. The employer reviews their information, conducts interviews and makes the final hiring decision.
FastDriver.eu does not become the employer. It does not replace the company's legal responsibility for candidate verification, employment contracts, remuneration or working conditions.
Employers that can consider international drivers should clearly state whether work authorisation guidance, visa process support, accommodation or relocation assistance is available.
This information must reflect the employer's actual offer. It must not be added only for search visibility.
Tell us how many drivers you need, the depot or town they work from, the licence category, experience, routes, language requirements and proposed employment conditions.
Our team reviews your company details and checks that the vacancy contains what a French driver needs in order to apply with confidence, including the category, whether the work is PL or SPL, the FIMO and FCO position and the schedule.
The vacancy is prepared, published and promoted according to the selected employer option.
Drivers apply through the platform. The employer reviews applications, communicates with suitable candidates and arranges interviews.
The employer makes the final hiring decision, verifies the candidate and signs the employment contract directly with the selected driver.
When separately agreed, FastDriver.eu may provide immigration process guidance, document coordination and relocation preparation for eligible international candidates.
Complete and accurate information helps drivers understand the opportunity and allows the platform team to publish the vacancy correctly.
Do not request unrelated information.
FastDriver.eu provides the digital platform and any separately agreed support services.
The employer is responsible for confirming the vacancy, independently verifying each selected candidate, checking driving licences and the FIMO and FCO position, and meeting all French employment obligations.
FastDriver.eu does not issue government approvals.
FastDriver.eu cannot guarantee applications, candidate availability, candidate suitability, interview attendance, hiring, work authorisation approval, visa approval, licence recognition, processing time or continued employment.
All vacancies must be genuine, current, lawful and accurate.
Employers must not request unlawful recruitment or application payments from candidates.
You write and publish a genuine vacancy; it appears on a board drivers use, and applications come back to you. Interviewing, selection, the offer and the contract all stay inside your business. The portal holds no candidates in reserve, supplies no workers and takes no part in what you decide. It is advertising, not recruitment.
We do not place drivers at any stage. FastDriver.eu is a driver job portal, not an agency of any kind, including a temporary employment agency, so it never employs a driver or supplies one to work under your direction. If a candidate needs work authorisation, it can provide process guidance and document coordination under a separate agreement, without making any decisions.
Drivers using the site across Europe can apply, and many will already be in France. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals work here without a permit, and Switzerland matters in this region because it is one of the four neighbours. Third-country nationals need a work authorisation obtained by the employer. Applications, availability and suitability cannot be guaranteed.
The employer files the application on the ANEF portal, not the driver. The salary offered must match at least the SMIC, or, if it is higher, the grade rate set under the convention collective nationale des transports routiers. No processing standard is published, and if the prefecture does not reply within two months, silence counts as a refusal.
The exemption does not extend here—Conducteurs routiers apparaissent uniquement en Provence-Alpes-C. The list is set by arrêté and revised, so check it when you plan a recruitment round.
A rigid vehicle takes permis C, an articulated combination takes permis CE, and adverts here use PL and SPL for the same distinction. C1 and C1E begin at 18, C and CE at 21, dropping to 18 for a holder of the initial qualification. Validity on the heavy categories follows the driver’s age, with a medical at every renewal.
The licence with its heavy-category expiry, the carte de qualification de conducteur or code 95 for FIMO and FCO, the carte conducteur for the digital tachograph, and the ADR certificate where the load requires one. These are separate documents with separate expiry dates, and drivers constantly confuse the qualification card with the tachograph card.
An EU or EEA licence is valid without exchange. Outside that, exchange depends on the reciprocity list, which marks each issuing country as Toutes, A et B, or B, and only a country marked Toutes carries the heavy categories across. The application has to begin within a year of the driver taking up residence, and a country absent from the list cannot exchange at all.
On the qualification side, retraining is unavoidable. A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised, so the driver takes a French FIMO regardless of experience. The licence question is separate and turns on the reciprocity list. A Ukrainian driver faces both problems at once, since Ukraine is absent from that list and the French examination applies.
More than in the neighbouring regions. The sample read for this page set out permis C and CE, FIMO, FCO, a current carte conducteur, ADR and CACES together, and produced a combined Chauffeur PL et SPL title. Match that level of detail, add the town and the pay coefficient, and say which items you will fund for the right candidate.
That depends on the candidate, not on the advert. A driver with a valid CE licence, FIMO, and a current FCO can start once your checks are done. A candidate needing work authorisation brings the three-week publication period, plus an application with no published processing time. FastDriver.eu makes no government decisions, cannot promise an approval and cannot promise a date.
Selection, the employment contract, pay and working time, vehicle compliance and driver records. Before a third-country national starts, the residence document goes to the prefecture covering the job’s location for verification, with at least at lworking days’ notice, and the DPAE goes to Urssaf. International transport or cabotage by a third-country national also needs the attestation de conducteur from the DREAL.
Directly. About 203,000 residents work in the four neighbouring countries, roughly 103,000 of them in Luxembourg, most driving their own cars and averaging around 42 km each way. In Moselle, nearly one in five employed residents worked abroad. Sector recruitment here was already reported as difficult in about half of driver posts, so the advert has to answer the pay question early.
Less than the geography suggests. The Strasbourg sample read for this page held no explicitly cross-border driving role: the outbound flow in this region is commuters, not French operators running international lines. If your vacancy genuinely involves runs into Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium or Switzerland, say so plainly, because candidates will not assume it from the location alone.
The regional approved centre list names AFTRAL at Jarville-la-Malgrange near Nancy, Reims, Torvilliers near Troyes and Bischheim near Strasbourg, with Promotrans at Reims and Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine and Formatrans France at Metz. Treat the towns as confirmed and check the exact course scope, FIMO or FCO, marchandises or voyageurs, with the centre before you name it in an advert.
Two are worth stating. Goods vehicles are banned from the road at weekends and on public holidays, with exemptions, which shapes the working week here as it does nationally. The Vosges are one of the massifs covered by the winter equipment obligation, set commune by commune, and an articulated vehicle must carry chains even when fitted with winter tyres.
Set out the Grand Est vacancy in the terms this region's adverts already use: the town, both licence categories where the role mixes them, FIMO and FCO, ADR, and what the pay actually includes. Applications come straight back to you.
Employers using this page recruit, select and employ their drivers themselves.
