For Corse Employers
Corse works to a sailing timetable rather than a road network. Freight reaches the island by ferry from Marseille and Sete under a public service delegation, daily to Bastia, every other day to Ajaccio and three times a week to Ile-Rousse and Propriano, so a missed sailing is a delay of days rather than hours. Corse has two departements, Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud, a resident population of around 355,000 and the fastest population growth in metropolitan France. That growth comes from arrivals and returns rather than from births, so employers are largely recruiting incomers and returners.

One local detail that catches new drivers out: at Bastia there is a single access point for all freight loading into the commercial port. Drivers coming from Cap Corse take the D80 towards Toga and follow the port signs, while those arriving from Ajaccio, Corte or Porto-Vecchio use the waterfront route through the tunnel and the rapid road and enter at the Toga roundabout. Corsican employers recruit chauffeurs routiers and chauffeurs de poids lourd on permis C, conducteurs SPL on permis CE, drivers for port trailer collection and island distribution, construction and public works drivers, and conducteurs de car for school and interurban services.
Permis C rigid work is visibly present in Corsican adverts, which use chauffeur de poids lourd and the general chauffeur routier alongside SPL titles. A permis C holder is a realistic hire here rather than a fallback, so head the advert accordingly instead of defaulting to SPL wording.
Conducteur SPL roles on permis CE cover trunk work between the two main bases and the trailers coming off the ferries. Whether the driver crosses with the trailer or collects one that travelled unaccompanied is the defining question for the shift pattern, so answer it in the advert.
Freight arrives as accompanied and unaccompanied trailers, temperature-controlled units, oversized and exceptional convoys, dangerous goods under IMDG rules and vehicle cargo. Drivers working the port gates at Bastia and Ajaccio need the sailing timetable in their heads as firmly as the route.
Civil engineering recruits alongside haulage on the island, which means tipper and plant movement on permis C or permis CE. Where a handling or lifting assessment is involved, remember that the assessment evidences competence and the autorisation de conduite you issue is what actually permits the operation.
Coach work runs on permis D with the voyageurs qualification. The Collectivite de Corse organises school transport and interurban passenger services across the island through its own network, outside the Bastia and Ajaccio agglomerations, which organise their own. Seasonal demand lifts coach and transfer work too.
Because this market is small, an advert that overstates the vehicle or the round gets recognised quickly and remembered. State the actual route, the actual vehicle and whether the job involves crossing on the ferry, because all three change the working week substantially.
Corse is a two-base island. Ajaccio in the Corse-du-Sud and Bastia in the Haute-Corse are the only substantial urban markets, the third largest commune has around eleven thousand residents, and any island-wide operation therefore runs long legs between two poles.
The Bastia plain functions as one labour market: Borgo, Biguglia, Lucciana and Furiani sit close enough to the city that a driver living in any of them is a realistic applicant for a Bastia depot.
Freight frequency differs by port. Bastia takes daily sailings, Ajaccio every other day, and Ile-Rousse and Propriano three times a week, all from Marseille and Sete. Promising a delivery date without checking the sailing is the commonest scheduling error here.
The Collectivite de Corse manages the regional road network, including the RT10 and RT11 routes, and organises transport across the island except within the Bastia and Ajaccio agglomerations, which run their own arrangements.
Porto-Vecchio, Calvi, Corte and Ghisonaccia anchor smaller markets, and designated mountain communes carry a winter equipment obligation set by prefectoral order, which applies on Corsica just as it does in the Alps.

French drivers search in French. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market.
Two letters carry most of the meaning. PL means a rigid lorry and maps to permis C. SPL means an articulated combination and maps to permis CE. Using them the wrong way round marks an advert as written by someone outside the trade, and drivers notice.
The common advert titles are chauffeur routier, chauffeur SPL, chauffeur PL, conducteur SPL and conducteur routier for freight, chauffeur livreur for delivery work, and conducteur de car for coach work.
Conducteur receveur is worth knowing. It means a bus driver who also handles fares and passenger contact, and it is the standard title on urban network vacancies.
Write the licence as permis C or permis CE. Adverts also use the older EC form, so either is understood, and the category usually appears in the advert title rather than buried in the body.
FIMO is the initial qualification and FCO the periodic refresher. Adverts list them by name alongside the carte de qualification de conducteur and code 95. Name only what the role genuinely needs.
The carte de conducteur for the digital tachograph appears in most freight adverts, and ADR where the load requires it.
One term is regularly misunderstood. CACES is an assessment scheme, not a licence. The legal permission to operate a forklift is the employer's own autorisation de conduite, and the CACES supports it rather than replacing it.
Pay is referenced against the convention collective nationale des transports routiers and its coefficient system. Stating a coefficient, or a clear gross figure, does more for an advert than a vague range.
Corsican advert language differs from the mainland markets in one visible way: PL is present alongside SPL. Titles on the island run to chauffeur de poids lourd and the general chauffeur routier as well as conducteur SPL, where advertising in Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse and around Fos is almost entirely SPL. PL is the rigid vehicle, driven on permis C; SPL is the articulated outfit, driven on permis CE. For an employer here that carries a practical consequence: heading every advert SPL will screen out permis C holders who are a genuine part of this labour pool, and heading a rigid job SPL will attract applicants expecting articulated work. Use both forms across your advertising and match each one to the vehicle the driver will actually take out.

For a candidate from outside the EU, the employer applies for the autorisation de travail through the ANEF portal. The application is the employer's to make, not the candidate's, and silence from the administration counts as a refusal rather than an approval, so track it rather than waiting.
Pay must reach at least the SMIC or the higher rate set by the convention collective nationale des transports routiers, whichever is greater. For driver roles the collective agreement is usually the binding figure, so check the coefficient for the post before you advertise a salary.
Unless an exemption applies, the employer must have published the vacancy for three weeks within the preceding six months before applying. The main exemption is the shortage occupation list, which is set by arrêté and is regional, so the list that matters is the annexe for this region rather than a national one.
Employers in Corse may receive applications from drivers based in France, elsewhere in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the wider European region, Asia, Africa, Gulf countries, North America, Latin America and other eligible international markets.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may work in France without a work authorisation. Licence validity and the professional qualification still apply to them exactly as they do to a French driver.
Where a French operator employs a driver who is a third country national, an attestation de conducteur is also required. It is issued by the DREAL, or the DRIEAT in the Paris region, and it is separate from the work authorisation.
A candidate's ability to work here depends on nationality, residence status, professional qualifications, driving licence validity and the requirements of the individual position. Name the licence category in the advert. A French driver reads it first, and PL or SPL in the title tells them immediately whether the job is theirs.
Freight work uses permis C for rigid vehicles and permis CE for combinations, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigids. Passenger transport uses D and D1. Delivery roles in light vehicles sit in category B.
Age limits matter when planning a pipeline. C1 and C1E open at eighteen, C and CE at twenty one, D1 and D1E at twenty one and D and DE at twenty four. C and CE drop to eighteen for a driver holding the initial qualification.
Heavy category validity is tied to age rather than a fixed term, and every renewal requires a medical examination by an approved doctor. The interval shortens as the driver gets older, which is worth knowing before you build a rota around one person.
FIMO is the initial qualification, one hundred and forty hours, with a longer initial route of two hundred and eighty. FCO is thirty five hours every five years. Both are evidenced by the carte de qualification de conducteur and by code 95.
The passerelle between goods and passenger work runs thirty five hours in either direction, but read it carefully before you plan around it. It converts the qualification, not the licence. A driver moving to coach work must already hold the passenger category, so it widens your field only among drivers who already hold both.
Foreign licences need care. An EU or EEA licence is valid in France. Outside that, exchange depends on a reciprocity agreement with the issuing country, and the agreements differ in scope: some cover all categories, many cover only cars and motorcycles. A heavy category can only be exchanged where the agreement covers it, and the exchange must be started within a year of the driver establishing residence. Check the country before you make an offer, not after.
A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised in France. An experienced driver arriving from outside Europe must take FIMO here, whatever they held before. Budget realistic time for that rather than discovering it after a contract is signed.
A carte de conducteur is required for the digital tachograph on in scope work, and ADR training where the load needs it. Say which of these the role actually needs, and remember that verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.

It is neither of those. FastDriver.eu does not employ drivers, does not supply them under hire and does not act as a cabinet de recrutement. In a market where a handful of operators recruit against each other repeatedly, it is worth being explicit: the advert is yours, the applicants come to you, and the employment relationship never passes through a third party.
Drivers with the right to work in France who meet the requirements in your advert. EU, EEA, and Swiss nationals need no permit, residence document, or registration formality. A third-country national needs a residence document authorising salaried work, and if they do not have one, you, as the employer, apply for the autorisation de travail, not the candidate.
Not for lorry driving. The list is set by arrêté with a separate annexe for each region, and the conducteurs routiers entry is not in the Corse annexe. An employer here recruiting a lorry driver from outside the EU must therefore satisfy the labour market test and show the vacancy was published with the public employment service for three consecutive weeks within the preceding six months. Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is currently the one metropolitan region where that test falls away, and the annexes get rewritten periodically.
Online, by the employer, through the interior ministry’s ANEF portal; paper filing at a prefecture counter no longer exists. A permanent contract runs through the carte de séjour salarié route, which leads to a multi-year card on renewal if the job continues, and a fixed-term contract through travailleur temporaire. The submission acknowledgement does not permit work to start, and two months without a decision counts as a refusal.
At least the SMIC, or the higher rate fixed by the convention collective nationale des transports routiers where it applies, whichever is greater. For drivers, the collective agreement rate is generally the operative figure. Because adverts here compete for a small pool, the frais de route and any accommodation or ferry arrangements are worth stating alongside the salary rather than leaving them to the interview.
Permis C for a rigid lorry, permis CE for an articulated combination, permis D for a coach or bus, with C1, C1E, D1 and D1E for the smaller categories. Baseline ages are eighteen for C1 and C1E, twenty-one for C, CE, D1 and D1E, and twenty-four for D, and C and CE drop to eighteen for a driver holding the initial professional qualification.
FIMO is the initial qualification of at least 140 hours, or 280 hours through the longer diploma and professional title route, delivered only in centres approved by the regional prefect. FCO is 35 hours every five years, and professional driving becomes unlawful the day it lapses. An employer planning a training-led hire in Corse should confirm where the nearest approved centre sits and budget travel and accommodation accordingly.
The licence sometimes, the qualification not at all. Heavy categories can only be exchanged where the issuing country appears on the interior ministry’s reciprocity list marked Toutes, and the request must be made within a year of establishing residence in France. A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA carries no recognition, so a French FIMO is needed, regardless of thedriver’ss experience elsewhere.
It should, because that is the single biggest variable in a Corsican driver’s week. Freight can travel accompanied or unaccompanied: the driver either crosses with the trailer or collects one that sailed alone. That decision determines the hours, the nights away, the subsistence and the rhythm of the job, and it has no mainland equivalent. An advert that leaves it unsaid produces applicants expecting the other arrangement.
It sets the outer limit on everything. Freight sailings from Marseille and Sète reach Bastia daily, Ajaccio every other day, and Île-Rousse and Propriano three times a week, under a public service delegation whose tariffs it sets. Missing a sailing is not a matter of hours: it is a day or more to Ajaccio and longer to the smaller ports. Build that into the shift pattern before advertising it.
Carefully, and with the advert doing more work than it would on the mainland. The island’s employer base is small, and the same operators recruit against each other, so an advert competes on specifics rather than on reach. The population is growing faster than anywhere else in metropolitan France, entirely through arrivals and returns rather than births, which makes incomers and returning residents a realistic part of the pool.
Because rigid work is a visible part of this market, island titles include chauffeur de poids lourd and the general chauffeur routier alongside conducteur SP. In contrast,e the large mainland markets advertise almost entirely in SPL terms. PL is the rigid, taken on permis C; SPL is the articulated outfit, taken on permis CE. Getting that pairing wrong marks an advert out immediately in a small trade.
None of the French low emission zones covers a Corsican city. Hence, a vehicle excluded from Lyon or Grenoble faces no equivalent restriction here, although the national framework for those zones is under review and states no settled position. On the institutional side, the Collectivité de Corse, rather than a conseil regional, governs Corsica, and it organises transport across the island except in the Bastia and Ajaccio agglomerations.
It changes the volume, not the licence. The island’s economy swings with the season, and supply, distribution and coach work rise and fall with it, so say in the advert whether the role is year-round or tied to the busy months. Separately, designated mountain communes carry the winter equipment obligation from the start of November to the end of March, and an articulated vehicle must carry chains for at least two drive wheels even when fitted with winter tyres.
The whole hire, and the compliance around it. Interviewing, choosing, contracting, and inducting the driver are yours, as is the declaration préalable àl’embauchee to Urssaf. For a candidate who is not an EU, EEA, or Swiss national, ask the prefecture at the place of employment to verify the residence document at least two working days before the start, and keep the dated request.
