For North Karelia Employers
North Karelia cuts and carries far more of its own roundwood than it once did, because the volume that used to arrive by rail from across the border is now felled and hauled at home. That is what most driver vacancies here are built around: wood into Uimaharju and Kevätniemi, and distribution out along the spurs to Lieksa, Nurmes, Ilomantsi and Kitee. Publishing the vacancy on FastDriver.eu puts it in front of drivers in Joensuu, elsewhere in Finland and in eligible international markets, and the applications come straight back to you.
Direct employer hiring • Finnish, European and international reach • Permit process guidance under a separate agreement
North Karelia is round timber country: thirteen municipalities, one centre of any size at Joensuu, and mills at Uimaharju and Kevätniemi pulling a continuous inbound wood flow. Nearly every driver vacancy in the region attaches to that flow somewhere.
Publish a genuine vacancy, name the category as C-kortti or CE-kortti, say whether ammattipätevyys and a valid kuljettajakortti are required on the start date, and describe the run itself. Current Finnish listings sit at www.fastdriver.eu/jobs/finland.
FastDriver.eu is a specialised driver job portal. It is not a recruitment agency and not a temporary employment agency, it employs no drivers of its own, and it supplies nobody under hire. You advertise, you interview, you hire.
One local point worth putting in the advert: the spring thaw places weight restrictions on roughly 490 kilometres of North Karelian gravel road, the largest length in eastern Finland, usually at 12 tonnes. Saying how your haulage plan handles that window tells an experienced driver you know the job. The Finland employer page carries the national picture.
Employers here recruit round timber drivers, trunk and groupage drivers out of the Joensuu terminals, distribution drivers for the long spurs, rural bus and school transport drivers, and machine operators who also hold a lorry category.
Round timber is the region's largest driver category. Advertise it as kuorma-autonkuljettaja or yhdistelmäajoneuvonkuljettaja with CE-kortti, and name the receiving point, whether that is Uimaharju, Kevätniemi in Lieksa or a Saimaa loading site at Kitee or Nurmes.
Kaukokiito and Kantola and Koramo both run Joensuu terminals feeding the wider east. Publish these as kuorma-autonkuljettaja or CE-kuljettaja with C-kortti or CE-kortti, and state where the leg turns round: Kuopio, Kajaani, Savonlinna or back into Joensuu.
Retail and service rounds here follow long spurs rather than a dense city. Advertise a jakelukuljettaja role with C-kortti, name the spur towards Lieksa, Nurmes, Ilomantsi or Kitee, and be honest that one round can take a full day.
Riveria trains bus drivers at Jukolankatu, so there is a local route into the category. Publish linja-autonkuljettaja vacancies with D-kortti and ammattipätevyys, and say whether the work is a Joensuu town service, a rural route or school transport.
Most driver advertising in this region is forest machine and earthmoving work, and many candidates hold both a machine ticket and CE-kortti. Where your role genuinely mixes the two, put that in the title the way local employers do.
Advertise the work you actually have. A timber run described as general haulage, or the reverse, wastes an applicant's time here more than most places, because the two jobs look nothing alike.
North Karelia is the largest of the eastern regions by area and the thinnest in settlement. Joensuu sits in the middle of it where Vt 6 and Vt 9 meet, and almost everywhere else is at the end of a long spur: Lieksa and Nurmes north, Ilomantsi east, Kitee south.
Recruit in Joensuu even when the vehicles are elsewhere. It is the only municipality in the region growing at all, and it holds the terminals, the port, the airport and the region's only logistics campus.
If the depot is in Lieksa or Nurmes, say so and say what you do about it. Both towns are losing residents at over two per cent a year, so a realistic recruitment radius reaches back to Joensuu.
Name the mill or the loading point rather than just the region. A driver who reads Uimaharju, Kevätniemi, Kitee or Nurmes knows immediately what the cycle looks like and how far from home the shift ends.
State shift length honestly. Runs to Ilomantsi or Nurmes take longer than the map suggests, because much of the mileage is lower class forestry road carrying acknowledged maintenance debt.
Driver work differs sharply between the capital region, the industrial coast, the eastern border regions and the far north. Open another region to see the hiring information that applies there.
Finnish drivers search in Finnish. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market, and Swedish matters on the west coast and on the islands.
Kuorma-autonkuljettaja is the standard lorry title and linja-autonkuljettaja the bus one. Yhdistelmaajoneuvonkuljettaja covers combination vehicle work, and taysperavaununkuljettaja and puoliperavaununkuljettaja appear where the trailer type is the point.
Distribution work is written as jakelukuljettaja, or as the base title with the work attached, as in elintarvikejakeluun, kappaletavarajakeluun or yojakeluun. CE-kuljettaja is used as a job title in its own right.
Write the licence as C-kortti, CE-kortti or D-kortti. The formal C-luokka form is correct but adverts do not use it, and Finnish employers usually put the category in the headline in brackets rather than burying it in the body.
Ammattipatevyys is the professional competence, carried as code 95. Name it only where the role genuinely needs it.
One term catches employers out. Kuljettajakortti in a Finnish advert means the digital tachograph card, not the competence card, which is the ammattipatevyyskortti. The two are listed separately in real adverts and confusing them will mislead candidates.
Pay is routinely stated as AKT TES mukainen, meaning according to the collective agreement. Adverts also list ADR-kortti and trukkikortti where the work requires them, and tyoturvallisuuskortti is common across logistics roles.
A practical approach is a Finnish advert naming the category and the ammattipatevyys position, with an English version when you also want candidates from outside Finland.
FastDriver.eu operates as a European driver job portal and allows candidates elsewhere in Europe and in eligible international markets to find and apply for suitable Finnish vacancies.
The Finnish Immigration Service, Migri, now decides these applications on its own. The separate labour market decision that the employment office used to issue no longer exists. The driver applies, and the employer then supplements the application with the terms of employment through Enter Finland for Employers.
Two figures shape the offer you can make. The gross salary must reach the published monthly minimum for an employed person, currently 1,600 euros, and supplements such as evening and night work do not count towards it. Driver pay is often built from a base plus supplements, so check the base alone clears the threshold before you advertise.
Availability consideration applies here. Before applying for a driver from outside the EU or EEA, the employer posts the job on Job Market Finland for two weeks on the same terms that the application will carry. The regional work permit guidelines are reviewed twice a year, so check the current position for this region before you plan a timeline.
Employers here may receive applications from drivers based in Finland, elsewhere in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the wider European region, Asia, Africa, Gulf countries, North America, Latin America and other eligible international markets.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may work in Finland without a permit, though a right of residence registration applies beyond three months. Nordic citizens register with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency instead. Licence validity and professional competence requirements still apply to all of them.
Where a Finnish goods operator employs a driver who is a third country national, a driver attestation from Traficom, the kuljettajatodistus, is also required. The operator gives the original to the driver to carry, keeps certified copies and returns it when the employment ends.
A candidate's ability to work here depends on nationality, residence status, professional qualifications, driving licence validity and the requirements of the individual position. Nationality alone never settles it. Drivers can check their own position through our driving licence eligibility guidance.
FastDriver.eu can provide process guidance and document coordination when a candidate needs support. It does not make government decisions and cannot promise an approval.
Name the licence category in the advert. It is the first thing a Finnish driver looks for, and it belongs in the headline.
Freight work uses C and CE, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigid vehicles. Passenger transport uses D and D1. Van and courier roles sit in category B.
Age limits matter when you are planning a pipeline. C and CE open at twenty one, or at eighteen where the driver holds the full professional competence. D opens at twenty four, reduced to twenty three, twenty one or eighteen depending on the qualification held.
Professional drivers in the C and D categories need ammattipatevyys, shown as code 95 on the licence. The initial qualification runs two hundred and eighty hours, or one hundred and forty on the accelerated route by age band, and periodic training runs thirty five hours every five years.
One point widens your field considerably. A driver who already holds competence in one branch can add the other with a thirty five or seventy hour course rather than repeating the initial qualification. That is the route to move an experienced lorry driver into bus work, or the reverse, though it does not by itself grant the licence category.
Foreign licences need care. An EU or EEA licence is valid in Finland while it remains valid. A licence from a contracting state can be exchanged, but a lorry or bus category always requires the full Finnish driving examination, theory and practical. Licences from other recognised states require an examination for every category.
A professional competence obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised in Finland. An experienced driver arriving from outside Europe will need the Finnish qualification, or one issued by another EU or EEA state, before they can do the work. Budget realistic time for that rather than discovering it after an offer.
A driver card for the digital tachograph is required on in scope work, and ADR training where the load needs it. A medical certificate applies to the heavy categories and renews more often with age. Say which of these the role actually needs, and remember that verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.

Employers in North Karelia can use FastDriver.eu to find drivers, advertise genuine vacancies and receive applications through a specialised European driver job portal.
The employer starts by submitting company details, work location, driver category, required licence, number of vacancies, experience level, working schedule, salary information and proposed start date.
The vacancy can then be prepared and promoted to relevant drivers through the platform, alongside the current driver vacancies already open.
Candidates apply for suitable positions. The employer reviews their information, conducts interviews and makes the final hiring decision.
FastDriver.eu does not become the employer. It does not replace the company's legal responsibility for candidate verification, employment contracts, remuneration or working conditions.
Employers that can consider international drivers should clearly state whether work authorisation guidance, visa process support, accommodation or relocation assistance is available.
This information must reflect the employer's actual offer. It must not be added only for search visibility.
Tell us how many drivers you need, the depot or town they work from, the licence category, experience, routes, language requirements and proposed employment conditions.
Our team reviews your company details and checks that the vacancy contains what a Finnish driver needs in order to apply with confidence, including the category, the ammattipatevyys position and the shift.
The vacancy is prepared, published and promoted according to the selected employer option.
Drivers apply through the platform. The employer reviews applications, communicates with suitable candidates and arranges interviews.
The employer makes the final hiring decision, verifies the candidate and signs the employment contract directly with the selected driver.
When separately agreed, FastDriver.eu may provide immigration process guidance, document coordination and relocation preparation for eligible international candidates.
Complete and accurate information helps drivers understand the opportunity and allows the platform team to publish the vacancy correctly.
Do not request unrelated information.
FastDriver.eu provides the digital platform and any separately agreed support services.
The employer is responsible for confirming the vacancy, independently verifying each selected candidate, checking driving licences and the ammattipatevyys position, and meeting all Finnish employment obligations.
FastDriver.eu does not issue government approvals.
FastDriver.eu cannot guarantee applications, candidate availability, candidate suitability, interview attendance, hiring, work authorisation approval, visa approval, licence recognition, processing time or continued employment.
All vacancies must be genuine, current, lawful and accurate.
Employers must not request unlawful recruitment or application payments from candidates.
Round timber above all. Domestic wood procurement intensified after Russian roundwood imports stopped, so more is felled and carried inside Finland than before. Around that sit trunk and groupage legs out of the Joensuu terminals, distribution along the spurs to Lieksa, Nurmes, Ilomantsi and Kitee, and rural bus and school transport. Forest machine and earthmoving roles are advertised alongside it all.
Nothing published supports planning for it. Niirala has been shut to road traffic since the eastern border closed; the closure has been renewed until further notice, and rail freight through the crossing has ended as well. A North Karelia vacancy should therefore describe domestic work. If a candidate asks about international running, the honest answer is that none comes from this region.
Directly. Roughly 490 kilometres of the region’s gravel roads carry weight restrictions through the thaw, the largest length in eastern Finland, and the usual limit is 12 tonnes. Timber plans here are built around that window rather than adjusted for it. Saying in the advert how your operation works through it signals to an experienced driver that you understand the job.
Riveria, at its Jukolankatu campus in Joensuu. It delivers the logistics basic qualification with bus driver, truck or combination vehicle driver and service logistics paths, plus the transport sector further vocational qualification for people already in the trade. It is the only prominent provider in the region, so every newly qualified driver you might hire has passed through one of its cities.
You can, and there is real freight there: the Binderholz complex at Kevätniemi, and timber loading points at both towns. The difficulty is people. Both are losing residents at between two and two and a half per cent a year, so the practical recruitment radius reaches back to Joensuu. If that is your position, say in the advert what you do about travel or accommodation.
More than its tonnage suggests. Vessel cargo is modest at about 0.22 million tonnes a year, but the port has gained an extension area and a rail siding, and UPM has taken a twenty-year lease on a plot there for timber sprinkling and storage. Staged wood generates short-cycle road work where it is stored, so port-adjacent running in Joensuu is likelier to grow than to shrink.
Constantly. In a recent sample of driver vacancies visible for the region, only a minority were road haulage roles and the rest were forest machine and earthmoving positions. Harvester contractors and excavator firms are courting a CE-kortti holder with forest experience at the same time. Predictable rotations and home time are usually what a road haulier can offer that seasonal machine work cannot.
It has moved the work rather than removed it. Floated volume recently reached a sixteen-year high, the equivalent of nearly 14,000 full semi-trailer loads, with Joensuu, Kitee and Nurmes among the loading points. That takes out some long hauls south and adds short cycle feeding into the loading sites. If your vacancy is one of those short cycles, describe it as such.
The portal is a driver-specific job board with European reach. You publish a genuine vacancy, the listing is promoted to driver audiences, and applications reach you directly. Nothing is routed through an intermediary, and nobody is supplied to you under hire. The portal handles publication and reach, and your company makes the hiring decision.
It is not, and the distinction matters. FastDriver.eu is a job portal, neither a recruitment agency nor a temporary employment agency. It employs no drivers itself and hires no one out to North Karelian firms. You advertise the vacancy, review the applicants, interview them and sign the contract. At no point does the portal become the employer.
Lawfully operating transport businesses with a real opening: timber hauliers serving Uimaharju and Kevätniemi, groupage and distribution operators with Joensuu terminals, fleet operators in the smaller municipalities, licensed bus and school transport companies, and firms whose driving roles combine road work with machine or terminal duties. The vacancy must be genuine, current and accurately described.
It is the Finnish professional driver qualification, shown as code 95 on the licence. The initial qualification runs 280 hours, or 140 in the accelerated form, with 35 hours of periodic training every five years to keep it current. Professional lorry and bus driving needs it. State in the advert whether the driver must already hold it on the start date.
The digital tachograph driver card, not the competence card. Finnish adverts routinely list three things together: C-kortti, ammattipätevyys and kuljettajakortti. The competence card is the ammattipätevyyskortti and appears separately as ammattipätevyys. Keeping the two apart in your own advert prevents applications from candidates who cannot lawfully start on the date you need.
You can advertise to them, and Migri decides the residence permit for an employed person on its own. Lorry and special vehicle drivers are listed in the Sisä-Suomi work permit guideline, which covers Pirkanmaa and Kanta-Häme only. In North Karelia, the labour market test still applies, so the job gmust be postedon Job Market Finland for two weeks on the same terms before tapplying
It depends on where it was issued. EU and EEA licences are valid as long as they remain valid. A contracting state licence can be exchanged, though heavy categories always require the full Finnish driving examination, and other recognised states require a test for every category. Finland does not recognise professional competence obtained outside the EU or EEA.
Your company does, at every stage. You review applications, arrange interviews, verify original documents and licence validity, check references, confirm eligibility to work, and sign the contract. FastDriver.eu cannot guarantee applications, candidate availability, suitability, interview attendance, hiring, permit approval, licence recognition or processing time, and it does not become the employer.
Publish a North Karelia driver vacancy and reach candidates in Joensuu, across Finland and in eligible international markets. Name the mill, the spur and the licence category, and the applications come back to you.
Employers in North Karelia advertise, interview, select and employ their drivers directly.
