For Kainuu Employers
Kainuu is a small, landlocked market of roughly 69,200 people in eight municipalities, and what gets advertised as driver work here leans towards mine, earthmoving and resort site operation rather than line-haul. Terrafame at Sotkamo anchors the freight, Kuhmo and Suomussalmi generate long timber runs, and the region's sea outlet is the Port of Kokkola, some 300 kilometres west. A vacancy on FastDriver.eu reaches local candidates and drivers elsewhere in Finland, Europe and eligible international markets.
The employer hires, not the portal • Local, European and eligible international candidates • Document coordination available under a separate agreement
Kainuu is eight municipalities, no coastline and no port, with Kajaani holding more than half the residents. Its freight is built on the Sotkamo mine, sawn timber from Kuhmo, and a long thin resupply chain into the eastern municipalities.
Write the vacancy around the vehicle: the C-kortti or CE-kortti you need, confirmation that ammattipätevyys and a kuljettajakortti are required, the load type and the shift. Vacancies across the country appear at www.fastdriver.eu/jobs/finland.
The portal advertises your vacancy and stops there. FastDriver.eu is not a recruitment agency, not a temporary employment agency and not an employer of drivers, and it does not hire anyone out to companies in this region.
A point that catches employers out here. Most of what is advertised locally as driver work is plant and machine operation, dumper, excavator, telehandler and bulldozer roles around Kajaani, Otanmäki and Vuokatti, so a road haulage vacancy reads against that background. Spell out that the job is road work and name the vehicle. The Finland employer page carries the national detail.
Employers in this region recruit for mine and site haulage, timber transport, long resupply rounds, earthmoving work and seasonal coach traffic at Vuokatti.
Dumper and site haulage vacancies appear around Kajaani, Otanmäki and the Sotkamo mine. State whether the work is inside the site boundary or on public roads, because that decides whether a C-kortti or CE-kortti and ammattipätevyys are required.
Puutavara-auton kuljettaja roles need a CE-kortti and cover Kuhmo, Suomussalmi and the sawmill traffic they feed. Forest road distances here are long, so give the loading areas, the crane arrangement and the realistic number of loads per shift.
Kuorma-autonkuljettaja work on a C-kortti serving Suomussalmi, Kuhmo, Puolanka and Hyrynsalmi is low density and high mileage. Say how many drops a round has and how far apart they sit, because this is nothing like an urban delivery job.
Maansiirtoauton kuljettaja vacancies run alongside kaivinkoneenkuljettaja and kurottajan kuljettaja work on local contracts. If the role combines road haulage with machine operation, list both, along with the safety cards the site expects.
Linja-autonkuljettaja roles with a D-kortti carry visitors and sports groups into Vuokatti in Sotkamo. The peak is short and sharp, so the advert should be honest about whether the contract is seasonal, part-time or year-round.
Be exact about which licence the job needs. Candidates here move between site machines and road vehicles, and an advert that blurs the two attracts applicants who cannot legally drive it.
Kainuu sits between the Oulu corridor to the west and the closed eastern frontier, with Kajaani at its centre, Sotkamo and Vuokatti to the south east and Kuhmo and Suomussalmi spread across very large forest municipalities. Distances here decide whether a job is commutable.
Kajaani holds about 36,400 residents and is where a recruitable pool exists. Sotkamo adds roughly 10,200, Kuhmo around 7,300 and Suomussalmi close to 7,000, and the four smallest municipalities together hold fewer than 8,500 people.
Terrafame-linked work is inter-regional in practice. Product and consumables move through the Port of Kokkola, so a Sotkamo driving job can mean a regular run of roughly 300 kilometres west on Vt28 rather than local shuttling.
The northern municipalities of Hyrynsalmi, Puolanka and Suomussalmi fall within the reindeer husbandry area while southern Kainuu does not, so verify the boundary for your own routes before you describe the hazard in a job advert.
Kuhmo covers 4,807 square kilometres of land and Suomussalmi 5,270, both with fewer than 7,500 residents. Timber and resupply work there means long gaps between facilities, which belongs in the advert rather than the induction.
Driver work differs sharply between the capital region, the industrial coast, the eastern border regions and the far north. Open another region to see the hiring information that applies there.
Finnish drivers search in Finnish. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market, and Swedish matters on the west coast and on the islands.
Kuorma-autonkuljettaja is the standard lorry title and linja-autonkuljettaja the bus one. Yhdistelmaajoneuvonkuljettaja covers combination vehicle work, and taysperavaununkuljettaja and puoliperavaununkuljettaja appear where the trailer type is the point.
Distribution work is written as jakelukuljettaja, or as the base title with the work attached, as in elintarvikejakeluun, kappaletavarajakeluun or yojakeluun. CE-kuljettaja is used as a job title in its own right.
Write the licence as C-kortti, CE-kortti or D-kortti. The formal C-luokka form is correct but adverts do not use it, and Finnish employers usually put the category in the headline in brackets rather than burying it in the body.
Ammattipatevyys is the professional competence, carried as code 95. Name it only where the role genuinely needs it.
One term catches employers out. Kuljettajakortti in a Finnish advert means the digital tachograph card, not the competence card, which is the ammattipatevyyskortti. The two are listed separately in real adverts and confusing them will mislead candidates.
Pay is routinely stated as AKT TES mukainen, meaning according to the collective agreement. Adverts also list ADR-kortti and trukkikortti where the work requires them, and tyoturvallisuuskortti is common across logistics roles.
A practical approach is a Finnish advert naming the category and the ammattipatevyys position, with an English version when you also want candidates from outside Finland.
FastDriver.eu operates as a European driver job portal and allows candidates elsewhere in Europe and in eligible international markets to find and apply for suitable Finnish vacancies.
The Finnish Immigration Service, Migri, now decides these applications on its own. The separate labour market decision that the employment office used to issue no longer exists. The driver applies, and the employer then supplements the application with the terms of employment through Enter Finland for Employers.
Two figures shape the offer you can make. The gross salary must reach the published monthly minimum for an employed person, currently 1,600 euros, and supplements such as evening and night work do not count towards it. Driver pay is often built from a base plus supplements, so check the base alone clears the threshold before you advertise.
Availability consideration applies here. Before applying for a driver from outside the EU or EEA, the employer posts the job on Job Market Finland for two weeks on the same terms that the application will carry. The regional work permit guidelines are reviewed twice a year, so check the current position for this region before you plan a timeline.
Employers here may receive applications from drivers based in Finland, elsewhere in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the wider European region, Asia, Africa, Gulf countries, North America, Latin America and other eligible international markets.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may work in Finland without a permit, though a right of residence registration applies beyond three months. Nordic citizens register with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency instead. Licence validity and professional competence requirements still apply to all of them.
Where a Finnish goods operator employs a driver who is a third country national, a driver attestation from Traficom, the kuljettajatodistus, is also required. The operator gives the original to the driver to carry, keeps certified copies and returns it when the employment ends.
A candidate's ability to work here depends on nationality, residence status, professional qualifications, driving licence validity and the requirements of the individual position. Nationality alone never settles it. Drivers can check their own position through our driving licence eligibility guidance.
FastDriver.eu can provide process guidance and document coordination when a candidate needs support. It does not make government decisions and cannot promise an approval.
Name the licence category in the advert. It is the first thing a Finnish driver looks for, and it belongs in the headline.
Freight work uses C and CE, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigid vehicles. Passenger transport uses D and D1. Van and courier roles sit in category B.
Age limits matter when you are planning a pipeline. C and CE open at twenty one, or at eighteen where the driver holds the full professional competence. D opens at twenty four, reduced to twenty three, twenty one or eighteen depending on the qualification held.
Professional drivers in the C and D categories need ammattipatevyys, shown as code 95 on the licence. The initial qualification runs two hundred and eighty hours, or one hundred and forty on the accelerated route by age band, and periodic training runs thirty five hours every five years.
One point widens your field considerably. A driver who already holds competence in one branch can add the other with a thirty five or seventy hour course rather than repeating the initial qualification. That is the route to move an experienced lorry driver into bus work, or the reverse, though it does not by itself grant the licence category.
Foreign licences need care. An EU or EEA licence is valid in Finland while it remains valid. A licence from a contracting state can be exchanged, but a lorry or bus category always requires the full Finnish driving examination, theory and practical. Licences from other recognised states require an examination for every category.
A professional competence obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised in Finland. An experienced driver arriving from outside Europe will need the Finnish qualification, or one issued by another EU or EEA state, before they can do the work. Budget realistic time for that rather than discovering it after an offer.
A driver card for the digital tachograph is required on in scope work, and ADR training where the load needs it. A medical certificate applies to the heavy categories and renews more often with age. Say which of these the role actually needs, and remember that verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.

Employers in Kainuu can use FastDriver.eu to find drivers, advertise genuine vacancies and receive applications through a specialised European driver job portal.
The employer starts by submitting company details, work location, driver category, required licence, number of vacancies, experience level, working schedule, salary information and proposed start date.
The vacancy can then be prepared and promoted to relevant drivers through the platform, alongside the current driver vacancies already open.
Candidates apply for suitable positions. The employer reviews their information, conducts interviews and makes the final hiring decision.
FastDriver.eu does not become the employer. It does not replace the company's legal responsibility for candidate verification, employment contracts, remuneration or working conditions.
Employers that can consider international drivers should clearly state whether work authorisation guidance, visa process support, accommodation or relocation assistance is available.
This information must reflect the employer's actual offer. It must not be added only for search visibility.
Tell us how many drivers you need, the depot or town they work from, the licence category, experience, routes, language requirements and proposed employment conditions.
Our team reviews your company details and checks that the vacancy contains what a Finnish driver needs in order to apply with confidence, including the category, the ammattipatevyys position and the shift.
The vacancy is prepared, published and promoted according to the selected employer option.
Drivers apply through the platform. The employer reviews applications, communicates with suitable candidates and arranges interviews.
The employer makes the final hiring decision, verifies the candidate and signs the employment contract directly with the selected driver.
When separately agreed, FastDriver.eu may provide immigration process guidance, document coordination and relocation preparation for eligible international candidates.
Complete and accurate information helps drivers understand the opportunity and allows the platform team to publish the vacancy correctly.
Do not request unrelated information.
FastDriver.eu provides the digital platform and any separately agreed support services.
The employer is responsible for confirming the vacancy, independently verifying each selected candidate, checking driving licences and the ammattipatevyys position, and meeting all Finnish employment obligations.
FastDriver.eu does not issue government approvals.
FastDriver.eu cannot guarantee applications, candidate availability, candidate suitability, interview attendance, hiring, work authorisation approval, visa approval, licence recognition, processing time or continued employment.
All vacancies must be genuine, current, lawful and accurate.
Employers must not request unlawful recruitment or application payments from candidates.
It is harder than the region's size suggests. A recent regional search returned about 30 transport, logistics and traffic positions, and nearly all of them were plant or machine operator roles rather than lorry driving. Combination drivers exist here, but the local candidate base leans towards dumper, excavator and telehandler work, so expect to train towards CE rather than to find it ready-made.
Nothing supports planning on it. Vartius sits in Kuhmo municipality, carries both a road crossing and the Kontiomäki to Kostomuksha railway, and was rebuilt with EU funding shortly before the eastern border closed. It has been shut ever since, with no reopening date. The corridor exists, it is in good condition, and it carries nothing. Build the operation westward instead.
There is genuine slack, which is unusual in Finland. Regional employment has been falling even while manufacturing output and exports rose, and change negotiations at the Otanmäki rolling stock plant have covered up to 200 jobs out of a workforce of about 600, in a region of roughly 69,200 people. An employer willing to train may be recruiting into availability rather than shortage.
Kokkola, mainly, and Oulu for some traffic. The region is landlocked, so every export-facing load leaves Kainuu before it reaches a quay. Terrafame's products and consumables are handled at the Port of Kokkola, which makes Vt28 through Kärsämäki and Kannus the region's working sea corridor and puts a long inter-regional leg into many local driving jobs.
It is the freight backbone. The site produces nickel and cobalt sulphates for battery use along with zinc and copper sulphides, employs 887 people of its own and averages about 1,840 people on site in total. Inbound reagents and outbound product move continuously rather than seasonally, which makes the associated driving work steady, and largely inter-regional rather than local.
This page will not claim one. Kainuun ammattiopisto in Kajaani is the region's vocational provider and appears in search results as offering logistics training, but that could not be confirmed in research, so check directly with the college before building a pipeline around it. The practical alternatives are hiring qualified drivers, converting local plant operators, or using training capacity in North Ostrobothnia.
In the north of the region it does. Hyrynsalmi, Puolanka and Suomussalmi fall within the reindeer husbandry area, southern Kainuu does not, and the boundary was not confirmed municipality by municipality, so verify it for your own routes. Where it applies, the national picture holds: collisions peak from October into January and every one requires a 112 call and an insurance report.
It depends which part you are in. Mine haulage at Sotkamo runs continuously, and timber moves year-round. Vuokatti is the exception: a ski and sports training destination in a municipality of about 10,200 residents that lifts supply, coach and site work sharply in winter, with international arrivals rising even in a year when tourism revenue was close to flat.
Finnish. No municipality in Kainuu is bilingual and there is no Swedish-speaking working environment, so depot instructions, site briefings and customer contact all run in Finnish. A driver arriving without it will need language support arranged alongside the job, and that is worth deciding before the advert goes out rather than after an interview.
Further than the map suggests. Kuhmo covers 4,807 square kilometres of land and Suomussalmi 5,270, each with fewer than 7,500 residents, and population density across the region is around 3.2 people per square kilometre. Rounds are long, facilities are sparse and relief options are limited, so schedules copied from a southern operation will not hold here.
A driver job portal operating across Europe. An employer in Kainuu publishes a genuine vacancy, drivers in the region, elsewhere in Finland, in Europe and in eligible international markets can see it, and they apply to the employer directly. The portal provides the advertising channel. It does not shortlist, place or supply anybody.
No. It is not a recruitment agency or a temporary employment agency, it employs no drivers and it hires nobody out. In a region where much of the advertised work is routed through staffing firms, that difference is worth stating: a driver recruited through the portal is your employee, on your contract, from the first day.
Legally operating hauliers, mine and site contractors, timber transport companies, earthmoving and construction firms, retail and fuel distribution operators, and licensed coach and passenger transport companies. The vacancy has to be genuine. Pay quoted as AKT TES mukainen, shift pattern and the actual base location should all match what the driver is later offered.
C and CE can be held from 21, or from 18 with the full professional competence, and D from 24, reduced to 23, 21 or 18 depending on the qualification held. Professional competence is 280 hours, or 140 accelerated, with 35 hours of periodic training every five years and code 95 on the licence. Kuljettajakortti in an advert means the tachograph card.
You can. Availability consideration still applies here, since only Pirkanmaa and Kanta-Häme currently list lorry and special vehicle drivers, so budget for a two week posting on Job Market Finland on the same terms before applying, and check the regional guideline in force. A professional competence gained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised, and Traficom issues the kuljettajatodistus.
Nothing about the result, and that is deliberate. It cannot guarantee applications, candidate availability or suitability, interview attendance, a hire, a permit or visa decision, licence recognition, processing time or how long a driver stays. Where work authorisation is involved, guidance and document coordination are available under a separate agreement, with the decisions resting with Migri and Traficom.
Publish a driver vacancy for Kajaani, the Sotkamo mine corridor, the Kuhmo and Suomussalmi timber areas or the Vuokatti season, and put it in front of candidates in Finland, Europe and eligible international markets.
Kainuu employers run their own recruitment and employ the drivers they choose.
